This article summarizes a recently-published study designed to determine how often acute kidney injury (AKI) occurs after contrast-enhanced and non contrast
enhanced CT in the emergency setting. The results of the propensity-matched, case-controlled study, showed that there was no difference in the frequency of AKI
between enhanced and non-enhanced patients undergoing CT, suggesting that the current fear of triggering AKI by intravenous contrast media is not supported
by objective data.
