Regular, age-based mammography screening reduces breast cancer mortality by approximately 20%, yet screening mammography still misses 20-40% of breast cancers [1,2,3 ]. Most of these missed cancers are interval breast cancers (IBC), defined as those that are detected after a normal mammogram but before the woman’s next scheduled screening [4].
